Certainly car tires and truck tires have improved in terms of performance and wear, but they still require more attention than often given. With environmental temperature fluctuations, of even 10 degrees, the pressure in your tires can be affected, so it's important car owners take care to keep the tires properly inflated and to rotate them on schedule. Keep in mind as well that healthy tires lose about a pound per square inch every month, and even though your new car may include an automatic tire pressure monitoring system, you should still check the pressure of your tires monthly.

WHAT'S IN YOUR GLOVEBOX?

   Simple or Digital? Both Work!

Tire gauges are relatively inexpensive and every car's glove box should contain one. You can find the proper air pressure (PSI) for your car's tires on a sticker inside the driver's-side door jam, or find it listed in your owner's manual. Unscrew the stem valve, press the tire gauge against the open valve stem and the number will appear on the dial or digital screen on the tire gauge. Compare this number with the recommended tire pressure for the tire. If it's too low, you can add air. If the pressure is too high, you can let air out of the tire.

Safe Drivers Do Their P.A.R.T.

PRESSURE -- Check your tire pressure monthly to improve wear, ensuring safe and predictable handling and maximize fuel economy.

ALIGNMENT -- Keep your vehicle's suspension in good working order.  Misalignment can cause abnormal wear on your tires, and is not generally covered by the manufacture warranty.

ROTATION -- Regularly rotate your tires on scheduled maintenance intervals.

TREAD -- Keep your tires and wheels balanced.  Give your tires a visual check every so often for uneven wear or signs of damage.  Watch the road to avoid potholes, curbs, spinning, and hard cornering.

Nissan Promotes Tire Inflation Technology - How it Works

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 7, 2013) - Nissan highlights the importance of vehicle tire care during summer driving season by promoting Nissan's "Easy Fill Tire Alert" system for National Tire Safety Week. Available on five Nissan vehicles, including the all-new 2014 Versa Note, Nissan highlights the importance of tire pressure monitoring systems, like its "Easy Fill Tire Alert" system. This signature innovation takes the guesswork out of regulating tire pressure, and eliminates the need for handheld tire pressure gauges. This system is only found on Nissan and Infiniti products.
